This Saint Laurent bag with it's glossy woven texture perfectly captures the silvery grainy effect of black and white photography and film noir - hence I have painted on this (genuine!) carrier my homage to the classic Helmut Newton photo of Yves's smoking jacket. The scene is so reminiscent of Paris, with the rain dappled street lit by street light, and striking with the moody pose of the androgynous, smoking model. The original photo was taken in the Marais close to where Newton was living, for Vogue Paris in 1975. Saint Laurent is a brand heavily associated with this insouciant, French kind of cool and so the illustrated combination on a carrier bag really works.
The bag is 53x32cm, and is mounted on white card sized 85 x 45cm, complete with handles.
