Product Details

'Joyce's Whisky' is a glass of the author's favourite tipple, strikingly lit on two vintage Joyce books, 'A portrait of the artist as a young man' in the binding of the first edition by Heubsch in 1916, and 'Stephen Hero' - a book that was written earlier and was a basis for the former but was published much later in 1944. I chose these two books as the character in them of 'Mr. Tate ' was based on my great grandfather, George Dempsey, who taught James Joyce at Belvedere College. He was a big influence on Joyce and helped him to get his first published work. Sadly the dedicated copy of the first edition given to George was 'lent' to friends and now only exists in family legend! George had a 39 yr career at Belvedere teaching English and History and the annual 'George Dempsey Memorial Prize' is still given out each year, see medal photo.

This print is hand signed by the artist (George Dempsey's great grandchild) printed on quality photo rag paper, mounted 10x8" to fit a standard 12x10" frame.

£45 inc mount, free UK postage, signed by artist
